Each beat in Life is based on a single source file that you’ve recorded or imported. The name of the current source file is shown in the top bar. Clicking the name opens the source file browser, where you can see all of your source files and the beats you’ve saved as presets for each file, represented by small beat circles.
If a file has less than 4 saved beats, you can see all of them on the same line as the file. If a file has more than 4 saved beats, you can only see the first 4. To see all saved beats for a file, and the name of each saved beat, click the > icon to the left of the file icon.
- To load a file with the default beat, select the file by clicking on the file row, then click ”OK”. This will load the file and set the current beat to the default, i.e. the beat you get when importing the file for the first time.
- To load a file with a saved beat, select the beat you want to load by clicking on the beat circle representing the saved beat, then click ”OK”. This will load the file and set the current beat to the beat you selected. If you select a beat in the same file that you already have loaded, it will replace the current beat, but keep the remaining beats on the shortlist.
- To quickly switch between source files, click the up/down arrows next to the name in the top bar. This will switch source files without opening the source file browser. If you realize that you made an error clicking the up/down arrows, you can undo your last change by clicking the small ”Undo” button that shows up next to the up/down arrows.
Remember to save any beats you want to keep as presets before switching source file, since you lose the beats on the shortlist when switching.
