The source file browser isn’t just for switching between files. It also lets you manage your files and beats, see what’s synced and not, and access factory content.
Rename and delete files and beats in Life
Files that you have created yourself can be renamed and deleted. Factory files cannot be renamed or deleted.
- To rename a file or beat, select it and click ”Rename File” or ”Rename Beat”.
- To change the color or icon on a file, select it and click ”Edit Image”.
- To delete a file or beat, select it and click ”Delete File” or ”Delete Beat”. When you delete a file, all saved beats created with that file will be deleted as well.
Rename and delete files in the mobile app
You can also rename and delete files from the mobile app.
- To rename a file, tap it once to reveal the ”...” icon, then tap the ”...” icon and choose ”Rename”.
- To change color or icon on a file, tap it once to reveal the ”...” icon, then tap the ”...” icon and choose ”Edit Image”.
- To delete a file, tap it once to reveal the ”...” icon, then tap the ”...” icon and choose ”Delete”. When you delete a file, all saved beats created with that file will be deleted as well.
Factory content
Life comes with a number of files and beats created by XLN that show what you can do with Life. You can load these files and beats like regular source files, and create your own beats based on them. New factory content may be added as time goes by.
- To hide factory files, choose ”User” at the top of the source file browser. If you’ve saved any beats based on a factory file, they will also be shown.
- To show only factory files, choose ”XLN” at the top of the source file browser. If you’ve saved any beats based on a factory file, they won’t be shown.
Using Life offline
When you click on a source file in Life, it is downloaded to your computer. Any files that you’ve downloaded can be used to make beats when you’re offline. However, since the files need to be synced to the XLN cloud service, you can’t do anything that changes the files or saved beats while you’re offline: you can’t rename or delete files or beats, you can’t record or import new files, and you can’t save beats.
Using the mobile app offline
With the mobile app, you can record even when you’re offline. Recordings you make when you’re offline are synced when you go online again. However, you can’t rename or delete files when you’re offline.
