There are two ways of working with hi-hats in Addictive Drums:
1. The "standard" way:
This method makes use of the open/close midi notes sent out by the module. If the hi-hat is closed, the drum module sends out one midi note. If it's open, it sends out another note. This option only lets you make use of one Open Hi-hat stroketype (i.e. only one state of "openness") but it is usually easier to get up and running without changing any settings.
2. The CC Hi-hats way:
This will only work if your drum module sends out a CC value for the "openness" of the hi-hat (0 is closed, 127 is fully open, and then you have all the values inbetween). Addictive Drums will then convert that value into one of the available Closed/Open stroketypes.
First we need to determine which method you are currently using, and then I suggest trying the other and see if that helps. Please load up Addictive Drums and click the [?] button in the top right corner and go to the Map Window. Hit the hi-hat while it is closed a couple of times and check the Midi Monitor in the top left. If it says "HH Closed Tip" then you are using the standard way, if it says "CC Hihat Tip" then you are using CC Hi-hats.
If you are currently using the standard way and want to switch to cc hihats, try this:
1. Click the [Hihat] button in the Map Window to see all available Hi-hat stroketypes
2. Click the [Learn] button next to "CC Hihat Tip"
3. Hit the hi-hat once to assign it
If you are currently using CC Hihats and want to switch to the standard way:
1. Click the [Hihat] button in the Map Window to see all available Hi-hat stroketypes
2. Click the [Learn] button next to "HH Closed Tip 1", then hit the hi-hat while it is closed
3. Click the [Learn] button next to "HH open C", then hit the hi-hat while it is open
Don't forget to save your Map Preset if you find a setting that works for you.
